WORK EXPERIENCE

Graduate Student Researcher, UC Davis – J. Amorocho Hydraulics Laboratory, Fall 2015 – Present

Works as part of an interdisciplinary team of engineers and wildlife biologists to assess the behavior and survival of endangered green sturgeon near model hydraulic equipment. Responsible for equipment operation, data collection, and hydraulic data analysis in MATLAB and R. Designed and implemented an ongoing study of turbulent time series in open channel flow. Repaired and tested the laboratory’s Acoustic Doppler Velocimeters for use in the project Collected hundreds of time series from different points in a laboratory flume with an irregular flow pattern. Analyzed the time series with the goal of identifying the effect of flow pattern on the “long memory” in turbulent fluctuations.

Research Assistant, Victoria University of Wellington – Department of Physical Geography, (Northern) Summer 2015

Worked for Professor James Renwick on a study of atmospheric blocking events in the high Southern latitudes. Analyzed over three decades of daily ERA and MERRA reanalysis data in R in the Southern Hemisphere. Quantified long term climatic trends in and the effect of the El Niño Southern Oscillation on the occurrence of blocking events.

Expert Testimony Analyst (Intellectual Property), Ocean Tomo, San Francisco, California, Fall 2011 – Spring 2015

Worked in teams assessing Intellectual Property (IP) litigation damages in industries such as computer hardware, wireless standards, consumer electronics, software, and medical devices. Developed complex financial damages models in Excel for both IP infringement lawsuits and IP-related contract disputes. Wrote and edited sections of expert reports, and review opposing reports for flaws and weaknesses. Led teams performing strict quality control for reports and exhibits. Communicated directly with client to coordinate case work, and managed junior analysts in completing tasks.
